Complete list of 2022 Horror Movies

At midnight, a sudden wind force opens your curtained window. Candles lighting up and then blown out, and suddenly, you see someone walking behind you. No, it’s not your imagination. Something horrifying is streaming on your screen to kill your free time: yeah, that’s the new horror movie!

Well, we know that horror films have separate loyal fan bases. If you are one of them, then here is a list of some of the released and some  upcoming 2022 movies of slasher themes that you wouldn’t want to miss. 

This list covers everything from “Scream, “The Long Night” to “The Shut In”, from psychological horror to slasher movies. 

  1. Scream (I) 

“Scream” is one of the top slasher movies of 2022. It is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. 

“Scream” is the fifth chapter of the “Scream film series” and a direct sequel to “Scream 4″ (the 2011 movie). The film stars Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, and Sonia Ammar. 

“Scream (1)” is the story of an incident that takes place twenty-five years after the Woodsboro murders. This horrible incident happens when a Ghostface appears and begins targeting the group of teenagers. 

However, they later realize that the group consists of teenagers, each somehow linked to the actual killings. Similar to previous entries, the new part of “Scream” is also connected with the violence of the slasher theme and “whodunit” mystery. 

  1. The Long Night 

“The Long Night” is a 2022 American horror film written by Robert Sheppe and Mark Young and directed by Rich Ragsdale. “The Long Night” stars Scout Taylor-Compton, Nolan Gerard Funk, Jeff Fahey, and Deborah Kara Unger.

The film is about a duo whose weekend takes an unusual turn when a frightening incident happens. Their leader, who has exhibited extremely wild or violent behavior, comes to fulfill an apocalyptic prophecy.

  1. Shut In (I) (2022)

“Shut In” is a 2022 thriller and horror film directed by D.J. Caruso and written by Melanie Toast. The movie stars Rainey Qualley, Jake Horowitz, Luciana VanDette, and Vincent Gallo. “Shut In” is “The Daily Wire’s” first original film and their third to be released on the streaming platform DailyWire+. 

The movie focuses on a young mother who gets blocked inside a pantry by her violent ex-boyfriend. It gets terrifying for the lady to save herself. The movie continues with how the lady cleverly protects her two small children from escalating danger while finding an escape.

  1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)

Another name on the list of top 2022 American slasher films is “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” This slasher movie is the ninth part of the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.” 

A couple of decades after the original movie, the story focuses on the serial killer Leatherface directing a group of young adults and coming into battle with a vengeful fighter of his prior murders. 

After 48 years of hiding, Leatherface proceeds to frighten a group of idealistic young friends who unintentionally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town.

  1. Studio 666 (2022)

“Studio 666” is an American horror film directed by BJ McDonnell and written by Jeff Buhler and Rebecca Hughes. The film is based on a story by Dave Grohl. The film stars Foo Fighters bandmates Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, and Rami Jaffee. 

In the movie, the Foo Fighters get transferred to a villa to write and record a new music album. They later find that the house is cursed and haunted.

“Studio 666” is the first non-documentary film to feature the Foo Fighters. The movie was released in the United States on February 25, 2022, by Open Road Films and received mixed reviews from critics.

  1. Fresh (2022)

“Fresh” is also an American black comedy horror thriller film directed by Mimi Cave. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan in the lead roles. Adam McKay produced this comedy horror film alongside Kevin J. Messick.

“FRESH” is a horror film that follows Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who meets the fascinating Steve (Sebastian Stan) at a grocery store. She had an interaction where she expressed her frustration with dating apps. 

Soon they started dating, and the two soon hit it off and have sex. After a couple of meetings, Steve invites Noa for a weekend break away alone with him, where he drugs Noa’s cocktail, and she falls unconscious. The story continues as Noa realizes Steve regularly lures and abducts women on dates. 

“Fresh” had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2022, and it was released in March 2022 via Hulu by Searchlight Pictures in the United States and Disney+.
In addition to the list, some of the other movies that got good reviews are, “The Innocents”, “Hellbender”, “Barbarian” and “Mad God”.
