Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth – 5 Reasons to Play For RPG Fans

Finding a good RPG for mobile can be hard work, but Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is a good choice if you want to get your adventuring fix on the go. The original, Valkyrie Profile, was released on the Playstation back in 1999. It was remade for the PSP in 2006, and remade again for iOS and Android.

Here are a few reasons why now is a good time to try it out:

1. It’s a good slice of gaming history

Valkyrie Profile was a success when it first arrived in 1999, but that puts it out of reach of many younger gamers. Now you can play it on your smartphone, you can experience the game for yourself without needing to track down a vintage PS1.

2. It has an excellent storyline

It has an excellent storyline. The Valkyrie Profile series is rich in lore. Based on Norse mythology, it follows Lenneth, a valkyrie collecting the souls of fallen warriors, training them and taking on quests. It’s worth playing to uncover the storytelling that Enix (now Square Enix) is famous for.

3. It has classic RPG mechanics

It can be hard to find mobile RPGs with all the classic mechanics you expect: turn-based combat, dungeon exploration, a rich experience system, quests and dungeons.

4. It’s an example of how mobile ports can be done well

Mobile ports of console games can be a disaster. Stretched screens, wonky controls, and other problems can ruin the experience of classic games. Lenneth is done pretty well, however. If you’re used to controlling games on your phone, you should enjoy the way it feels to play.

5. It’s a great introduction to the series

There are actually three main-series games in the Valkyrie Profile series so far. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is the first, and it sets up the lore for the series. With Valkyrie Elysium (an epic RPG set in the same universe as the other Valkyrie games) almost here, you may be wondering what the history is with this iconic series. Now is the time to familiarize yourself with the world by going back to the beginning again.
