In what diseases is medical marijuana really effective?

The medicinal properties of marijuana have been known to people for thousands of years. Our ancestors used parts of the plant, as well as its fruits, to treat various diseases. You may be surprised, but even some 200 years ago, pharmacies sold painkillers, healing ointments, drops and tinctures made from hemp.

However, in the 20th century, this plant was persecuted, and only today people began to realize their mistake. Today, the plant is used as a medicine in many countries around the world, while medical marijuana Dania Beach is completely legal.

What diseases does marijuana treat?

When we talk about illnesses, we often think of something like a cold, flu, or seasonal allergies. These are the diseases that we most often face in our lives. However, there are many diseases that are much more dangerous to human health. Some of them, such as cancer, medicine still has not learned how to treat.

But marijuana in these cases is already showing its potential not only as a pain reliever, but also as a tool that directly affects healing.

Oncology

The active components of marijuana, cannabinoids, are capable of:

  • suppress tumor growth;
  • kill cancer cells.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive component of cannabis, acts on the cannabinoid receptors in the human body.

Cannabidiol (CBD) has the ability to “turn off” the gene responsible for the spread of cancer to other organs in the aggressive form of the disease. It is important to note that this substance does not have psychoactive properties.

Cannabis is used to treat various forms of cancer, from brain tumors to melanoma. It is a good option in cases where traditional methods do not help. Moreover, radiation therapy and chemotherapy poison the body, killing healthy cells in addition to cancer cells.

Epilepsy

Today, there is some evidence that cannabinoids have anticonvulsant properties. Observations of many children suffering from regular uncontrolled seizures have shown that cannabinoid therapy can be an extremely effective treatment for epilepsy. In most cases, it is possible to achieve that convulsions completely stop. It is because cannabinoids prevent the overactivity of the neurons and synapses that cause a seizure.

Many patients claim that with the regular use of cannabis-based drugs, they even managed to give up traditional drugs and forget about the attacks.

Multiple sclerosis

Cannabidiol (CBD) has been shown to help relieve the symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis. It prevents the cells of the immune system from mutating and attacking the insulating sheaths of nerve endings in the spinal cord. Mice with partial limb paralysis were injected with cannabinoids. They responded to therapy with restoration of motor functions. At first, the mice began to twitch their tails, and then they began to walk normally again.

It was noted that the spinal cords of mice treated with CBD were significantly less inflamed than those of the rest. It should be noted that after severe damage to the myelin sheath of muscles, cannabis is no longer able to restore its function. Therefore, early detection of such symptoms is the key to recovery.

Conclusion

Today, few people doubt that cannabis has therapeutic qualities. In some cases, it is even better than traditional drugs because it has no side effects.
