Geek Squad is an antivirus and software solution service provider. They also provide repair services for all kinds of computer equipment. You may have noticed that in order to use the high-end features in antivirus software or AMC to repair devices customers must pay a monthly subscription fee.

Scammers used their Geek Squad brand to target innocent victims. Customers were sent an email from ‘Payment_Details regardless of whether they had used Geek Squad’s services. Geek Squad. The email stated that the value ($280, $399.99, and $987) was automatically charged to the account of the customer because the customer had opted to renew their subscription automatically.

About Geek Squad Billing Scam :

The email noted that Geek Squad services were renewed for the next two or three years. The email mentioned an invoice’s number as well as the the product name, and subject line along with an account number. However, the name of the product was not clear the if it was an antivirus or AMC. The most important thing is that the email provided a phone number for the customer to call to contest the charges.

It was the most effective scam! The scammers requested that victims contact them to contest the charges. Unfortunately, a lot of innocent individuals fell into the scam and called the number. The perpetrator of Geek Squad scam demanded that they remotely examine their computer for the presence of any Geek Squad products they have installed. The scammer then behaved as if they had billed the person who was in error.

In the next step, the scammer arranged the request for refund before the customer. But, they acted in a way to make a refund of the higher amount! For instance that for a cost of $399.99 stated via email. The scammer attempted to pay $4000.00 by mistake.

The scammer asked the victims to repay the difference by using BestBuy vouchers or gift cards available through the internet or via phone. In the Geek Squad Security Scam,people were misled to believe that the amount of the refund request could not be changed and BestBuy coupons are usually accepted as repayment options since Geek Squad is associated with BestBuy.

Conclusion:

Gift coupons are intended to be used for gifts, which means it isn’t possible to keep track of transfer history! The scammer is not traceable because the gift coupon transaction doesn’t appear as a transaction on the financial institution’s account or PayPal electronic wallet or credit cards! So, there’s no reason to making a report to financial institutions!
