Mildred Elizabeth Voigt Jolley, a beacon of dedication, commitment, and passion, passed away on August 7, 2023. As we commemorate her life and legacy, it’s evident that she left an indelible mark on her community and family.
Early Life and Education
Born in Columbia, SC, Mildred was the beloved daughter of Theodore M. and Elizabeth Irby Voigt. Over the years, she established deep roots in Aiken, calling it home since 1955.
Career in Social Services
With a heart dedicated to serving others, Mildred pursued a career in social work. She eventually retired from the SC Department of Social Services Aiken office, where she touched countless lives and provided invaluable assistance.
South Aiken Presbyterian Church
Mildred was an integral part of the South Aiken Presbyterian Church. She not only brought her voice to the choir, but also served as an Elder. With her guidance and leadership she held onto the title of past president of Women of the Church as well as being recognized as Woman of the Year.
Passion for Music and Arts
Music was a vital part of Mildred’s life. This love for melodies and harmony led her to be actively involved with the Aiken Choral Society, Aiken Choraliers, and the USCA Concert Choir. Furthermore, she was a proud member of the Town and Country Club, showcasing her multifaceted interests.
Immediate and Extended Family
Surviving Mildred are her four children: Lisa McCullough, Paul Jolley, Peter Jolley (Linda), and Jonathan Jolley (Sarah). Mildred is also survived by twelve grandchildren and an extended lineage that includes great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, testaments to Mildred’s deep-seated values and dedication to family.
Service and Interment Details
To celebrate Mildred’s impactful life, a gathering will be held on Thursday afternoon, August 10th, at 3 o’clock, at the South Aiken Presbyterian Church. This will be followed by a heartfelt memorial service at 4 o’clock, officiated by The Rev. Jason Hammersley. Mildred will find eternal rest at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, GA, with the burial scheduled for Friday afternoon, August 11th, at 2 o’clock.
In the light of her passing, the legacy of Mildred Elizabeth Voigt Jolley remains ever shining, inspiring all those who knew her to live with purpose, passion, and love.
