Action To Take After Your Teen Involved In Car Accident

1. Call the Emergency line (911)

After your teen’s involvement in an accident, you should first check if no one is injured. In case someone sustained injuries, call 911 immediately for help.

2. Ensure your teen is safe

After you’ve alerted the emergency unit, the next thing to do is to move your teen to a safe place away from the accident scene.

If the car could still be driven, drive them to the shoulder of the road. This is to prevent further road accidents at that spot and ensure that the road is clear of traffic jams as quickly as possible.

3. Turn On Hazard Light

If available, set up emergency cones and turn on your hazard light.

4. Get Out Of The Car

If moving away from the car is safe, get out of it to a safe place.

5. Contact Roadside Assistance

If it is safe to drive the vehicle or it is not drivable any longer, call roadside assistance to help a tow service.

6. Call the Police

When your teen is now in a safe spot, he or she now needs to call the police. No matter how severe the accident proved to be, this is a must. With your help, your teen would need to write a police report if the accident isn’t severe.

7. Notified the Insurance Company

From the mobile app notify the insurance company about your car accident so they could start processing your claims.

Have your teen share contact information as well as insurance information, also from the mobile app. Let others know that they need to share theirs also. This would be useful and needed in case when fault and financial responsibility have been established.

8. Note Taking By Your Teen

Have your teen take note of all that he or she could remember concerning the accident with the help of the mobile app.

Also from the mobile application, let your teen form a note about what he or she remembers concerning the accident. He would need to take and upload photos also. There would be specifications of the type of photos and how many to be uploaded.

Things You Should Not Do After Car Accident

  • Assigning Blame to someone
  • Signing things from persons other than the police
  • Leaving the accident scene

Note that your teen must follow smart procedures after an accident so they don’t get hurt.

This is why proper documentation of an accident experience is imperative to avoid being faulty or guilty of an accident they didn’t cause.

Your teen should not leave the accident scene so that additional costs and fines are not incurred.
